PERSONALITY: Soma is, to most people, a bull-headed disaster child that doesn't think before diving headfirst into things. Which isn't an incorrect assessment by any means, but his motivations are a lot more simple than people realize. He has very humble beginnings compared to most of Tohtsuki's students, yet he is already a better chef than most of the academy by the time he enters high school. This isn't due to any inherent special skill or privileged background; Soma has earned that talent through hard work and a near obsessive dedication to learning. His father is a world renowned chef and there is nothing Soma wants more than to become even better than him. Despite losing to his dad in 490 consecutive crushing defeats, Soma takes all of that frustration and turns it into the fuel that drives him to learn even faster and become stronger. By fighting this way all his life without even an ounce of doubt shaking him from his path, he isn't daunted by things like fear or disadvantage. When a challenge is presented to him - or incited by his own eager bridling - Soma comes alive with an excitement and fury that comes from a very simple love of cooking. To him, it is the most pure expression of one's self and their passion, and nothing else matters but the endless possibilities that come with that freedom.

This is how Soma faces the world, as an open field for him to roam and explore and absorb as much knowledge as possible. His style of learning is not only reading everything available to him and practicing endlessly until his techniques have been perfected, but watching the people that already know how to do something he doesn't. He is constantly absorbing information from the people around him, which means he views everyone as a source to better his cooking. Everything that tests him makes him stronger, so no challenge is too tough for him to take head on. He doesn't care about pedigree, fame, or seniority, and comes off as supremely disrespectful to people that are supposed to hold authority over him because he doesn't care who you are or where you came from; your true skill can only be found in your cooking. In this way, he treats everyone with the same level of casual friendliness, only giving any kind of respect when he feels it has fully and truly been earned. This carefree attitude and unshakable tenacity generally comes off as stupidity and recklessness, and yes, Soma can very quickly get himself in deep with things he would be better off without.

But he proves himself every time by using everything he's learned from everywhere he's been and taking an approach that most people would never even consider. His endless creativity and ability to adapt under any circumstance is where most people begin to respect him for the talented little shit that he is. He's too open and honest for most people, often saying whatever he's thinking at any given moment, even - or especially - if it makes them uncomfortable. This includes calling people out for their sheltered behavior or admitting his own feelings without shame or filter. He likes to tease people for the bubbles they stay in this way, like poking fun at Megumi's anxiety when he knows that she can do incredible things if she could only step out of it. This weird combination of honesty and teasing unbalances most people, because Soma sees the value in everyone's abilities and doesn't think he should have to be the one to point it out for them. He believes everyone should be free to cook in the way they want to, and that being the truest version of yourself is the only way to move forward.

The only time Soma becomes truly upset or angry is when someone threatens that notion and tries to diminish the value of one's individuality. The lame teases and taunts about his small-town family diner don't bother him in the least; it's the moments when someone tries to shake others from their pride and purpose because it doesn't meet their "standards" that push him out of his usual unflappable nonchalance into seriousness. He's a man of the people and doesn't have time for anyone that can't see the rest of the world past their own blinders. He wants to blast through their imaginary walls and show them just how strong you can get if you stop accepting such useless limitations. Charging through life this way makes him a natural leader, but he has no interest in having people follow him. Even as he beats them, he builds people up and inspires them to follow their own path. This frequently turns rivals into friends, albeit begrudgingly, and Soma surrounds himself with people that work together to better themselves and each other. This is his ideal world, and it's why he is always happiest when he's in the kitchen facing a new challenge with the knowledge he's gained from his mentors and friends. He takes everything - fear, frustration, anger, happiness, love, and affection - and pours it into his cooking. The world is his oyster, and he's gonna cook the hell out of it.

MAGIC ABILITY: If possible, I'd like to give him water manipulation, including temperature control. Like AtLA style water bending while also being able to heat or cool it as desired. I would make him carry around a water source so he isn't like, pulling moisture out of the air to do anything crazy. I swear I chose this specifically so he can cook or freeze food anywhere he goes, he must be as Extra as possible.
ANY WEAPONS/MAGICAL ITEMS?: There's no magic in the Food Wars universe, but Soma does carry around three chef's knives with him everywhere he goes. If he can't have all three, can I still give him the case with only one of the knives in it?
